Michael founded the Arcadia Analytics software suite as a business unit within Arcadia, where he oversaw its initial development, successful commercial launch, and transformation to a high growth business. He continues to be a guiding force behind the Arcadia Analytics platform’s universally-recognized market leadership in enabling success in value-based care. Today, Michael is the Chief Innovation & Strategy Officer at Arcadia, responsible for helping his colleagues set and achieve the company’s strategic priorities. He oversees innovation focused on generating medium-to-long term value for the business, including the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning to unlock the value in healthcare data. He leads data science and data analysis teams that help customers manage the nuances of their complex value-based contracts.
Michael’s fascination with healthcare’s transformation to value started when he was a healthcare consultant involved with and leading $100M transformational projects at Tufts Health Plan and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island. Michael saw firsthand the opportunities new technologies and data could bring to healthcare, but he also witnessed the deficiencies of the traditional fee-for-service model and its negative financial impact on all sectors of the economy.
As the U.S. healthcare system began to adopt new value-based payment models in the 2010s, Michael saw an opportunity to accelerate financial returns for health systems that took risk. Arcadia had years of experience with a unique, proprietary approach to aggregating and analyzing clinical data from EHRs. By marrying its proprietary clinical data asset with claims data from health plans, Arcadia could provide healthcare organizations with an unparalleled breadth and depth of information about population health and financial performance across the care continuum. Michael is confident that by providing health systems with a pathway to success, Arcadia can accelerate the adoption of value-based care as the dominant healthcare model across the country and, eventually, worldwide.
Through Arcadia’s rapid growth, Michael has held and successfully transitioned leadership roles in product, marketing, sales, engineering, analytics, implementation services and operations functions.
Michael holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering from Tufts University. He lives outside Boston with his wife and spends most of his time trying to keep his children entertained.
